Did I Hear You Right?....
This morning, Ethan took off his shoes before getting up into his booster seat to eat breakfast. I said, "Ethan, please go put your shoes in the basket." He said, "No Momma, you put shoes in the basket, that YOUR job." Before you get worried about where Ethan learned to talk to me like this let me give you some context...
Every night at bedtime Ethan wants to switch off his lamp, but the switch is right next to the lightbulb. So I tell Ethan, "Your job is to close the door, Momma has to turn off the light, that's my job." So now he says, "I do my job! I close door! You turn off light, that your job!" I guess my silly boy is using my own words against me now! By the way...he did go off and put the shoes away himself!
Hip Hip Hooray!
Hooray! This picture was taken on our NEW MacBook!! The people at the Apple store looked at us a little funny when Rich told them that his last computer was purchased from the Apple store in 2002....I guess that is what they would consider "out of date" or something?!?I look forward to blogging from our new toy!
Survival Swimming

This is Ethan's second summer in survival swimming through ISR. Last summer he learned basic floating and rolling, and so far this summer he has learned how to reach for the edge, and swim towards his teacher Ms. Holly on his belly. Our lessons are at 8 am for 10 minutes each day. Here he is on his 5th lesson and his first day without crying! If you look closely you will see that I got to get in the water with him! That calmed Ethan down and he realized that swimming is actually fun! Holly was able to snap these great underwater pictures of Ethan as he happily swam back and forth between the two of us. Next, Ethan will learn how to swim and flip over onto his back to float. He tried that today and he wasn't a big fan of floating, I am sure he will feel more comfortable with practice! Just no practicing in the bathtub though...that's because the babies learn to feel the bottom of the tub with their little butt and they struggle to maintain a good float in the pool!Friday, June 24, 2011
New Release: The Cars Movie!

The next 45 minutes or so are a blur...there was a lot of trying to convince Ethan what proper theater etiquette does not include. I took Ethan back out to the lobby for a bit to see if that would help. When we returned, it was worse. He was not in it for the long haul. Rich and I finally surrendered, grabbed our little monkey, and left. We did however get passes for any movie, any time that we wish to go to. A nice gesture by the theater for parents who find themselves in these sorts of situations!
So, I am not sure if Rich and I will work up the courage to go back and try to see Cars in the theater or if we will just have to wait until it comes out on DVD!

Happy Father's Day!

For Father's Day this year, Ethan and I surprised Rich with tickets to go see the Diamondbacks. We had great seats in the lower level along the 3rd baseline. Ethan loved shouting out at the field "Go Diamondbacks!!" and "Swing batter batter!" We also went up to the upper level so that Ethan could play in the kids area, and of course we had to take a walk through the team shop. Ethan REALLY wanted to use the bat and ball and get a game started of his own. I was a bit worried he might break something in the store, he has quite the arm!Since the Diamondbacks are hosting the AllStar Game, the stadium is all decked out in All Star decor. Ethan decided he wanted a picture of himself sitting with the Mickey statue. He sat down and smiled for Dadda all on his own!
We love you Richard! Happy second Father's Day, thank you for being such a wonderful father and husband!

Strawberry Picking
Ethan, Rich, and I took a road trip the day school ended so that Rich could properly say goodbye to Arielle (who leaves for the Peace Corps at the end of June). He wasn't able to make it out for her party in April, so we planned a trip that included Boulder Creek, San Mateo, and San Diego. We stayed in 6 different beds in 9 nights! Ethan was such a trooper in the car all of those hours. He talked, looked for dump trucks and helicopters, sang, snacked, and even played on the Ipad a little.
On our full day with Arielle, we took a drive out to the coast to an organic strawberry farm for some strawberry picking. Ethan was hysterical... his basket was constantly empty because every time he would get a few strawberries in there he would just eat them and toss the stem.
Rows and rows of organic strawberries...yum!

One of MANY strawberries that didn't make the trip home

Those strawberries were too good to stop at one basket!

Mission Beach
After we left the Bay Area, we headed down to San Diego. Even though it was a bit overcast, we decided to hit the beach anyway (how can you not?!?). Ethan wasn't so sure about the sand at first, but he got more used to it as we walked around. He didn't want to go anywhere near that water though! It was more fun to explore the beach and look for shells and crabs.

Hey look! A crab!

This is about as close to the water as we got
Kisses at the beach
